KWC – Fruit Rosary Sacred Hour Service

I have a new release for the library – I’ve been mostly working on mixtapes with Phong Tran for the Excavation Series, so new things hitting the library shelves generally have been put on pause, but this album escaped and is now live.

This album is visiting an earlier reflection, where what was real has been completely washed away in the unconscious over time.

A curio that in a roundabout way mimics mass or a strange gospel performance by intercutting perceptions from early years and concealed every-day reconstructions, a weird latent long form tape-pitch lap steel (sacred steel-inspired) collection with found sound and voice breaks as collage. It just came from next-to-nothing. Staring at beautiful churches and remembering going to them when I was a kid.

Fruit Rosary Sacred Hour Service

A slow-motion devotional-like music and hyper-spoken out-there outreach program spread out across two half hours, broken into performance, group and spoken segments.

Loose memories of childhood church-going, the running pictures and films of the mind when partly under that spell, seeing all these different churches near our home, hearing street preachers on corners, seeing Jehovah’s Witness people waiting outside subway stations, thinking about religion and preaching and wanting higher powers while living in a congested free-for-all city that has everything coming at you a mile a minute, and thinking about finding a retreat from the city inside the city, and inside the mind, and how we have a natural way of playing characters out that are subconscious and buried a bit inside and how words and speaking them can help bring different shapes and meanings once aloud, and how trance forms and repetitions bring about new meanings and altered presences, and how wanting things to happen you have to shout for them to happen, and thinking about the sound of the lap steel as heavenly and how playing in a sacred steel style taps into the mysterious gospel shape note spirituality, through the music and the repetitions we can get closer to something, using technologies and manipulations we can try and transcend the ordinary and reach out in that great preacherly way for something higher, or something above us, so we can look up and be in awe, we want to be in awe, I want to be in awe, and I gladly put all of my confidence in lost causation but it still finds its way back into deep dreams and lower thinking levels and finds its way into the front of the brain and into the voice and into the breath and onto the dust and onto the tape…

Youth visions blending into the next city’s perpendicular reality.

This album is available on two formats, a CD-R edition of 20, PML CDR 05, home-burned with home-printed black-and-white artwork on heavy card stock in recycled paper envelopes. And a mono tape edition of 13, PMLibrary 017, home-dubbed on a mono duplicator machine with heavy card stock j-cards in black-and-white in recycled clear cassette cases. The mono tape is rough and raw, don’t hold the quality against me, I wanted to see the full project through on this and that vision included finding an old tape at a church bazaar, for example. The CD-R edition is highest quality listening. Either way, I hope yr interested and want to pick something up to give a deeper listen or just sit back and grab the free digital files on Bandcamp or at Free Music Archive, they are there for the taking, free of guilt.

As always, thanks for reading and listening!

Peace,
Kev
